While many women may experience a form of breast disease throughout their life, benign breast disease can present some symptoms that may be frightening without the proper diagnosis. There are a large number of benign breast conditions, or benign breast disease. Benign breast disease is very common among women, and encompasses a variety of conditions, including:

  • Cysts
  • Fibroadenomas
  • Fat Necrosis
  • Intraductal Papilloma
  • Sclerosing Adenosis

Some of these diseases require simple treatments with Dr. Thomas Williams, and rarely cause patients any additional issues. However, some of these noncancerous breast diseases may increase your risk for breast cancer, such as hyperplasia. As a dedicated and highly certified breast cancer specialist, Dr. Thomas Williams works closely with patients experiencing benign breast disease to create a long-term treatment plan, including breast cancer screening, for patients experiencing any disease which could lead to breast cancer.

At Breast Care Specialists of Carolina PLLC, Dr. Thomas Williams performs a very methodical examination and workup to provide an accurate diagnosis. More often than not, these benign (noncancerous) conditions of the breast do not require formal surgery, although needle aspiration or biopsy may be required to confirm the diagnosis.
